Different Parts of SCBAs
 

An SCBA is made up of four major components. To keep the user safe in potentially dangerous respiratory situations, each component is necessary. These four parts are listed and explained below.

SCBA Air Cylinders

The most evident SCBA component is the air cylinder. The open circuit SCBA recycles its air. However, in closed circuits, pressurized oxygen is added to air tanks, enabling rescuers…to enter spaces where there’s fire or smoke and successfully free trapped or injured people.
After every rescue operation, the air tanks in the SCBA must always be carefully inspected to make sure they won’t be low for the next rescue mission.

Different Classes of Cylinders

Depending on the kind of SCBA being utilized, the cylinders for air can be divided into three distinct categories. For every type of cylinder, there’s a specific timeframe and amount of pressurized air that can be used. These three groups of cylinders are as follows:


Low pressure: 2,216 of PSI
Mid pressure: 3,000 of PSI
High pressure: 5,500 of PSI


Harness & Frame
The harness and frame allows you to carry the air cylinders on your back without them interfering with your work. A fast release buckle, adaptable waist strap, and two movable shoulder straps make up the harness assembly. Watch out for any damaged or loosened joints or loose fasteners, and inspect the frame for bends and cracks.


Respirator System
The respiratory system of the SCBA has the ability to control the air pressure coming from the canister in order to supply the wearer with fresh air as needed. Each unit of this system is essential in ensuring that the SCBA user receives breathable air. The respiratory system of an SCBA normally entails regulators and air hoses.


Facepiece
The facepiece helps to create a space around your mouth and nose where air can circulate. Additionally, it can shield you from airborne risks like flying debris.

melting; Afterburning time: 0.0 s; After the flame retardant performance test of full cover, medium pressure air duct and air
supply valve, the subsequent combustion time is 0.0 seconds; After the flame retardant performance test, the pressure indication
value of the pressure gauge of the whole machine decreases by 0.0mpa within 1min after the air tightness test;

Thermal aging resistance:

After the air tightness test, the pressure indication value of the pressure gauge decreases by 0.0mpa within 1min; After the
pressure test, the medium pressure air duct has no leakage and abnormal deformation;

Dynamic respiratory resistance:

The pressure of the gas cylinder is 30MPa ~ 2MPa, and the expiratory volume is 40 × At 2.5l/min, the positive pressure is always
maintained in the full hood, > 0; Suction resistance 217pa; Expiratory resistance 660pa; Cylinder pressure 2MPa ~ 1MPa, expiratory
volume 25 × At 2L / min, the positive pressure in the full hood remains > 0; Suction resistance 253pa; Expiratory resistance:
585pa;

High temperature resistance:

After the high temperature test, all parts have no abnormal deformation, adhesion, degumming and other phenomena; Breathe at a
respiratory rate of 40 times / min and a respiratory flow rate of 100L / min, and maintain a positive pressure > 0Pa in the full
mask of the respirator; Expiratory resistance 662pa;

Low temperature resistance:

After the low temperature test, all parts have no cracking, abnormal shrinkage, embrittlement and other phenomena; Breathe at the
respiratory rate of 25 times / min and the respiratory flow of 50L / min, and keep the positive pressure in the full mask of the
respirator > 0Pa; Expiratory resistance 581pa;

Radiant heat resistance:

After the air tightness test, the pressure indication value of the pressure gauge decreases by 0.0mpa within 1min; The pressure of
the gas cylinder is 30MPa ~ 2MPa, and the expiratory volume is 40 × At 2.5l/min, the positive pressure in the full hood shall
always be greater than 0; Suction resistance 193pa; Expiratory resistance 642pa; Static pressure 385pa; And not greater than the
opening pressure of the exhaust valve;

Alarm performance:

The alarm pressure of pneumatic alarm is 5.6mpa; At least the sound intensity of 90dB (a) lasts > 15s; The alarm continues to
alarm until the gas cylinder pressure drops to 1MPa; Average gas consumption: 4.1l/min;

Overall hood performance:

General requirements: meet the requirements of 5.12.1 of XF 124-2013 positive pressure fire air respirator; The total visual field
retention rate was 77.8%; The retention rate of binocular visual field was 65.0%; Lower visual field > 35 °; Lens transmittance
96%; The CO2 content in the inhaled gas is 0.87%;

Performance of pressure reducer:

The output pressure of the pressure reducer is within the design value range of 0.66mpa ~ 0.73mpa; The output pressure adjustment
part of the pressure reducer is provided with a locking device; The output end of the pressure reducer is provided with a safety
valve;

Safety valve performance:

The opening pressure is 157% within the maximum design value of the output pressure of the pressure reducer; The full exhaust
pressure is 164% of the maximum design value of the pressure reducer output pressure; The closing pressure shall not be less than
the maximum design value of the pressure reducer output pressure of 1.16mpa; The air supply valve is equipped with an automatic
positive pressure mechanism;

Pressure head up display device:

General requirements: wireless connection; Do not hinder the wearer's sight and head rotation; Whether the head swings or not, the
wearer can see the working state of the LED; The display mode meets the requirements of 5.17.2 of XF 124-2013 positive pressure
fire air respirator; When the wireless connection is adopted, the pairing between the transmitting device and the display device
is unique; Working time under low voltage condition > 2H; Explosion proof performance shall comply with the provisions of ex iaiic
T3 in GB 3836.1-2010 and GB 3836.4-2010;

 

Scba Med Approved

The two major types of SCBA are

 

Closed Circuit: Also known as a rebreather, these SCBAs filter, supplement, and recirculate exhaled gas. Closed-circuit SCBAs are typically used in longer rescue missions, like in mining environments.


Open Circuit: Filled with filtered, compressed air rather than pure oxygen, these tanks can run out quicker, making them ideal for shorter rescue operations.
