Product Introduction
SOLAS XT1800A SOLAS Retro-reflective tape is type II SOLAS tape, which is intended for outdoor lifesaving gears with excellent UV proof, perfect aging performance.
The retro reflective tape consists of encapsulated catadioptric glass beads which are partially encapsulated with a layer of plastic material.
It is SOLAS MED approved, conforms to Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU and IMO Resolution MSC.481(102) Annex 2.
It provides high reflectivity over a wide range of entrance angles, no matter dry or wet. The tapes are in silver color under daytime and reflect a bright white light in darkness with light on it.

Product feature and application
- High reflectivity for maximum visibility
- Durability in marine environments
- Strong adhesive backing for secure attachment
- Compliant with IMO and SOLAS regulations
- Available in various sizes and shapes
SOLAS XT1800A Retro-reflective tape is type II SOLAS tape, which means it can be used for both indoor and outdoor lifesaving gears SOLAS life support equipment, such as life buoys, life vests, immersion suits, life jackets, life boat, life rafts etc.
Attention: Surfaces to which the material will be applied must be thoroughly cleaned from dust, grease or any contamination which could affect the adhesion of the material. Freshly lacquered or painted surfaces should be allowed to dry for at least three weeks and to completely cure respectively. The compatibility of selected lacquers and paints should be tested by the user, prior to application of the material. The self-adhesive reflective material can only be used for dry application. The low tensile strength of the material can make the removability of the reflective film more difficult.

FAQ
Q: Where is SOLAS reflective tape commonly used?
A: SOLAS tape is primarily used on marine safety equipment, such as:
- Life vests
- Life rafts
- Lifeboats
- Personal flotation devices (PFDs)
- Buoys
- Other emergency gear onboard ships and boats
Q: Is SOLAS tape waterproof?
A: Yes, SOLAS reflective tape is waterproof and designed to withstand harsh marine environments, including exposure to saltwater, UV light, and extreme weather conditions.
Q: How does SOLAS reflective tape work?
A: SOLAS reflective tape reflects light back to its source, making objects highly visible in low-light or night-time conditions when illuminated by light sources, such as a searchlight or ship's lights. The tape uses microprism or glass bead technology to achieve its reflective properties.
Q: Can SOLAS reflective tape be used on non-marine equipment?
A: While SOLAS tape is designed for marine use, it can be applied to other equipment or vehicles that require high visibility in dark or hazardous conditions, such as outdoor gear, bicycles, or road safety equipment.
Q: How do I apply SOLAS reflective tape?
A: To apply SOLAS tape:
- Ensure the surface is clean and dry.
- Cut the tape to the desired size or shape.
- Peel off the backing and apply the tape to the surface, pressing firmly to ensure a strong bond.
- For best results, allow 24 hours for the adhesive to fully set.
Q: How long does SOLAS reflective tape last?
A: SOLAS reflective tape is highly durable, typically lasting several years in harsh marine environments, although the exact lifespan depends on conditions such as sun exposure, saltwater contact, and physical wear.
Q: Is SOLAS reflective tape regulated?
A: Yes, SOLAS reflective tape must meet specific standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and is regulated under the SOLAS Convention. It must pass rigorous tests to ensure its performance and durability.
Q: Can SOLAS reflective tape be cut to size?
A: Yes, you can cut SOLAS tape to fit specific shapes or sizes needed for your application without affecting its reflective properties.
Q: Where can I buy SOLAS reflective tape?
A: SOLAS reflective tape is available at marine supply stores, safety equipment retailers, and online marketplaces. For dealers, please contact us for bulk purchasing at emfmarine.com sales@emfcn.com
Q: What colors does SOLAS reflective tape come in?
A: SOLAS reflective tape is typically silver or gray in color because these colors offer the highest reflectivity and are required for compliance with marine safety regulations.
Q: Can SOLAS reflective tape be used in extreme temperatures?
A: Yes, SOLAS tape is designed to perform in a wide range of temperatures, typically from -30°C to 80°C (-22°F to 176°F), making it suitable for extreme marine conditions.
Q: How do I maintain SOLAS reflective tape?
A: To maintain the effectiveness of SOLAS tape, clean it regularly with mild soap and water to remove dirt, salt, or other contaminants that may reduce its reflective properties. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the tape.
Q: What certifications can you provide?
A: We offer MED B and D approval by LR together with the EU Declaration of Conformity (DOC).
Q: What are the payment terms of EMF Marine?
A: Normally T/T 100% in advance for small orders. T/T 30% against order and balance before shipment for large orders. But we can discuss on special payment terms for some special orders.
Q: What are your general delivery terms?
A: EXW, FOB are the general terms we offer. CIF, FCA is less and less offered due to quick changes on freight in current unstable shipping market.
