US classification method
Chemical and flame resistance tests can protect against 21 basic chemicals.
The basic OSHA standard requires four levels of protection:
A, B, C, D. Workers at each level of danger must be equipped with corresponding levels of protective equipment and protective clothing to fully protect the user.
Level A--represents the greatest degree of danger, which causes damage to human breathing, eyes or skin.
These injuries may come from toxic vapors, gases, particles, chemical splashes, immersion or contact with toxic materials.
It requires fully enclosed chemical protective clothing, which must be equipped with SCBA or pipeline respirators and appropriate accessories.
Level A chemical protective clothing can also be made to meet NFPA1991 standards.
Level B indicates that the environment requires the highest respiratory protection, but the requirements for skin protection are not high.
It requires SCBA or positive pressure pipeline respirators with escape cylinders, plus a hood, chemical protective clothing (one-piece and long-sleeved jacket; one-piece, one or two anti-splash chemical protective clothing; or one-piece chemical protective clothing that can be used alone).
